On the Monday before Thanksgiving, Candlewick Press and BookSense.com partnered
to host an an online chat with bestselling author Gregory Maguire. The chat gave
fans an opportunity to ask Maguire about his newest title, What-the-Dickens:
The Story of a Rogue Tooth Fairy, in stores now.
What-the-Dickens is a newly hatched orphan creature who finds he has an attraction
to teeth and penchant for getting into trouble. One day he happens upon a feisty
girl skibberee (tooth fairy) who is working as an Agent of Change (trading coins for teeth),
and he learns that there is a dutiful tribe of skibbereen to
which he hopes to belong.
During
the chat, which BookSense.com stores
had the option of featuring on their websites, participants asked Maguire about
what happens to the characters following the conclusion of the book, what the
chances are for a sequel, and whether he had a particular "soundtrack "
in mind while writing What-the-Dickens. Maguire also offered fans insight
about his beliefs regarding magic and fairies, his sources of inspiration, his
favorite characters in What-the-Dickens, and more.
