April Notables Fliers & Shelf-Talkers Available, Picks Deadlines Abound
March 27, 2008
The
April 2008 Book Sense Notables flier
is now available in a downloadable PDF on BookWeb.org. The flier includes jacket
images, bibliographic information, and bookseller quotes. In addition, all 20
Notables titles are also featured in an electronic file of shelf-talkers
for in-store use.
The April Notables list includes a posthumous collection of nonfiction pieces
by Kurt Vonnegut (Armageddon in Retrospect, Putnam), a memoir of growing
up in Jamaica by noted poet Lorna Goodison (From Harvey River: A Memoir of
My Mother and Her Island, Amistad), and fiction from acclaimed writers Alice
Hoffman (The Third Angel, Shaye Areheart Books) and Tobias Wolff (Our
Story Begins: New and Selected Stories, Knopf).
Looking ahead, Friday, March 28, is the deadline for the upcoming, selected
list of notable titles on the environment. Modeled after the successful "Shop
Local" list of notable titles, which was compiled from the recommendations
of indie booksellers, the Green List will be a selection of titles -- new and
backlist, hardcover and paperback -- that booksellers believe are of both immediate
and lasting value.
Booksellers are asked to e-mail nominations for the Green List to Dan Cullen, senior director of editorial content, at
dan@bookweb.org and include the words "green
list" in the subject line.
In addition, there will be five opportunities in April for booksellers to help
compile upcoming Book Sense Picks lists. The upcoming deadlines are:
- April 4 -- June Picks
- April 4 -- Audio Books Top Ten
- April 11 -- Summer Children's Picks
- April 11 -- Summer Paperback Picks
- April 18 -- LGBT Top Ten
Booksellers can submit Book Sense Picks recommendations via e-mail to picks@booksense.com
or via the electronic nomination form on ABA's trade website, BookWeb.org.
