"Welcome to Hollywood" Reception: Refreshments, Authors, Friends
May 13, 2008
Booksellers at Wednesday night's "Welcome to Hollywood" Author Reception
at this year's BookExpo America will mingle with some of their favorite California
authors while enjoying light refreshments, courtesy of Harry N. Abrams and Da
Capo Lifelong Books. The reception, co-sponsored by the American Booksellers
Association and the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association,
begins at 5:00 p.m. at the famed Egyptian Theatre, just down the street from
Hotel ABA.
"Harry N. Abrams is thrilled to be supporting the 'Welcome to Hollywood'
author reception at BEA this year," said Michael Jacobs, president and
CEO of Harry N. Abrams, Inc. "ABA and its members are invaluable to the
success of our books and our industry."
Abrams is sponsoring the wine at the reception to celebrate Laura Holmes Haddad's
Anything
But Chardonnay, published by Stewart, Tabori & Chang, an imprint
of Harry N. Abrams, in March. Haddad, a food and wine journalist and the founder
of www.Gourmetgrrl.com,
arranged for wine distributor Brown-Forman to supply wine for this year's party.
Da
Capo Lifelong Books, a member of the Perseus Books Group, and Mäni's Bakery
will be providing special bakery items in honor of Mäni Naill's new cookbook
Sweet!
Home Baking With Every Kind of Natural Sugar and Sweetener.
For members arriving earlier in the day on Wednesday, ABA has made special
arrangements with a local walking tour company, which has added a significant
literary edge to its standard Hollywood Walking Tour (space is limited for this
unique tour, so members are urged to sign up today). There will also be a shuttle
bus to take members for a special tour of the Getty Museum and Bookstore. The
list of things to do and see in L.A. is endless, so ABA has also provided a
suggested list of alternative activities, but all member booksellers are reminded
to be back in time for the Author Reception at 5:00 p.m. (Read
